Printing; HP C4280

I am helping a friend. We have Ubunto 8.40 loaded and working great. He is thinking of buying the HP C4280. Your list indicates that the printer works right out of the box. Does the scanner work with the XSane program??????

We need some help on this. I will receive emails on this. Thank you in advance.

This is the listing for that printer in the OpenPrinting.org site. States that it mostly works:

But I checked the HPLIP site and found this for that printer:

http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/models/photosmart/photosmart_c4200_series.html

If you scroll towards the bottom where Ubuntu 8.04, it states that Faxing, Network and Parallel do not work. Scanning does work though.
