Hello gian,

You should start Synaptic ( System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager ), and then click on search, choose "name", type "hplip" and click on "Search" button. In the list, you will then see the version of hplip you have, and the last available in the distribution repositories.

Hope that it helps you.
