cups and hplip not in 12.04.1? What happened to synaptics and software center. Can't find anything of them in Precise.

What is the easiest work around?

Just checked Cups and Hplip, both in Ubuntu Software Center. Software Center should be in launchbar on left side of screen. These sites will help.

If the taskbar is not on the left side of the screen, press the Super (Windows) key.

cd $HOME
wget http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/hplip/hplip-3.12.9.run
chmod +x ./hplip-3.12.9.run
./hplip-3.12.9.run

Get the latest HPLIP, may help
