How to get my printer to print since upgrading Ubuntu

Asked by Vince Ann Brandon

Since I upgraded to the new Ubuntu, my hp deskjet 5650 does not receive the order to print from the computer. I know this printer is not new, but it's worked fine since I went to Ubuntu for the last 2 or 3 years. I'm not a tech type person, (old lady) so please keep it in simple language. Thank you.

I will gladly give you this information if you can tell me where to find
it. I'm not a tech type person, just an old grandma that uses the
computer to keep in touch, print a few letters, recipes, etc., and keep
my pictures in order. Thank you.

Open a terminal by pressing CTRL+ALT+T

Copy and paste the commands

lsb_release -a; uname -a; lsusb

From the edit menu > Select All then Copy

Paste all the results back here.

I'm assuming printing worked OK before the upgrade. Can you confirm this please and also tell us which version of Ubuntu you had before the upgrade.

Yes, the printer worked OK before the upgrade. When I open a terminal
it is a black screen with vince@vince-desktop:~$
Is that what is supposed to be there?

I tried to do as you directed, but it didn't help. I was working on two
problems, you on the one about the printer, and someone else about my
camera not doing what it did before the upgrade. The camera solution
was to plug it into an XP computer and then back to the Ubuntu. It
worked! You probably know why, I'm just thankful it did. Since that
worked, I tried it with the printer. It worked! My printer is now
compatible with my computer. *Thank you! *

Thank you for the help. I hooked the printer up to an XP and then back to the Ubuntu and it now works.
