Did you get the latest HPLIP from the HPLIP site? What is the output of:

lsb_release -a; dpkg -l | grep hplip

hp's site gives instructions on how to install the driver. did you read and follow the instructions? it's a 2 parter and you have reboot before you complete the 2nd part.

also, how doesn't it work? if you got the first part installed, it should work. i think the 2nd part is to install the printer status app which is disabled if you have installed cairo dock.
