hp deskjet 3050 all in one printer install problems

Asked by alan

I have Ubuntu 10.10 Iam trying to install a deskjet 3054 printer, I installed the driver and seemed to install but when i try to open
it it tells me, : /media/HP DJ3050_J610/Setup.exe
[/media/HP DJ3050_J610/Setup.exe]
End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
zipinfo: cannot find zipfile directory in one of /media/HP DJ3050_J610/Setup.exe or
          /media/HP DJ3050_J610/Setup.exe.zip, and cannot find /media/HP DJ3050_J610/Setup.exe.ZIP, period.
Can someone point me in the right direction

That is a driver for windows. This being ubuntu, you do not need to install it, as it is a driver for a completely different operating system.

According to the HPLIP website, that should be fully supported under ubuntu. Have you tried printing to it after plugging it in?

You need to have the hplip package installed (I think this installed by default, but double check if it does not work out-of-the-box)

I had a quick search, and some older versions of HPLIP have some issues, and you may need to update. http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=61918&start=0
