My usb hp deskjet 2500 series doesn't print text on 11.04 64 bits

Asked by Roland Gutsch

Hi all,
i just set up 11.04 X64 on my laptop and i am having some problems.

my printer hp deskjet 2500 series usb is not printing plain text.
i can print testpages, fotos, graphics and everything else just fine, even links get printed out correctly, or frames in html pages or calc.
but plain text is just not to be printed, wether in writer, firefox, gvim or any other app i tried.

the printer is connected and recognized.

HP's devicemanager is fine, shows ink status and all..

i tried everything that i could think of, e.g. installed and updated hp's software both manually or with packages, i tried to alter the driver. i installed every font package, i installed the fontserver etc. i even rerun the whole 11.04 installation and switched the localization from german to english, still no effect.

when i print to file, everything is the way it is supposed to be, .ps and .pdf look fine, when i print the both of them ---> no text!

i think i'm stupid, pls help me...

thanks

Try to watch into logs into /var/log ... directory look for hplip errors from terminal type:

cd /var/log

grep -i hplip *

Thanks again, guys. I already un- and reinstalled hplip a couple of times, installed fresh ubuntu with and and without printer pluged in, then installed hp by package or .run, always the same status.

log files:
dpkg.log brings up all packages containing hplip, no surprise.

popularity-contest: :-)))

/var/log/syslog:
Aug 5 23:56:37 HOSTNAME
AptDaemon.Worker:
INFO:
Committing packages:
dbus.Array([dbus.String(u'hplip-gui')], signature=dbus.Signature('s')),
dbus.Array([], signature=dbus.Signature('s')),
dbus.Array([], signature=dbus.Signature('s')),
dbus.Array([], signature=dbus.Signature('s')),
dbus.Array([], signature=dbus.Signature('s')),
dbus.Array([], signature=dbus.Signature('s'))

/var/log/udev:ID_HPLIP=1

Still, nothing changed and no errors.
Let's keep it down with the suggestions: what happens here?
- I give a printer command via which application ever (even the trusty console doesn't print text)
--> how does the printer or spooler get it's fonts? there seems to be the error, maybe just a permissions thing (yes, i installed the hplip as a user..) Everything extraordinary like pictures, links, frames, flashanim, etc. is printed correctly.
- the rest is fine, hplip works, obviously.

Any more ideas?

Thanks again

Try to save then remove your .hplip directory into your home (if ou use nautilus please activate the hidden file visualization)

Then reinstall hplip

hi,
thanks again for your help.
so i uninstalled every hp-related package, removed my .hplip dir and did so with every file related by name or content to hplip, except for descriptions, of course.

i rebooted, rechecked and ran hplip.run, freshly downloaded from hp.
installed without any problems, same problem.

again, where does the printer process get its fonts from?

Regards
