how to install HP deskjet 712c

How do I install the hp deskjet 712c? I have inserted the disk into the drive and opened it up. But none of the instructions for installing from the CD onto a Windows program match Ubuntu. I am very new at using Ubuntu and don't have a clue how to install it. Is there something similar to the "Run" command from the Start menu on WIndows? If not, how do I connect a printer to the computer?

Grab the latest HPLIP from the HPLIP site, mark it as executable and run it in a terminal as user (without sudo)

Thanks for the answer . . . though I have no idea what it means about executable and terminal and sudo!! However, while waiting for an answer, I happened to find the system settings control center and that allowed me to install the printer.
