HP Laserjet Not Printing in Ubuntu 10.04

Asked by Biswanath Chakraborty

I am trying to install HP Laserjet P1007 printer in Ubuntu 10.04. When I connect it to USB port, a pop-up message says that the printer is ready. But when I try to print, nothing happens, only a printer icon is displayed in the notification area. Then I installed "hplip" from Ubuntu repository. This time on reconnecting the printer to the USB port, it requests for administrative password. On supplying it, the "HP Device Manager - Plug-in Installer" appears. Selecting the first option 'Download and install the plug-in from am HP authorize server (recommended)' it tries to connect to the HP server for a long time but fails and says "Network connection not detected". ( My Internet connection is OK.). Still it doesn't print as before. Can anybody address the problem, please?

Grab the latest hplip installer (the .run file), mark it as executable and run it in terminal as your user (not with sudo). Should be fine

The problem is now solved. While running the latest hplip file from HP's website, it asked for some dependencies and tried to download those from ubuntu repos but failed, giving an error message that the network is unreachable. After some search, I found that a plug-in file, hplip-x.xx.x-plugin.run from Openprinting would do the job. So, I first installed the hplip driver from ubuntu repo. On connecting the printer to the usb port the "HP Device Manager - Plug-in Installer" appeared and tried to install the plug-in. I choose the second option to install it from a local copy. Now the printer prints normally.
Thank you all for you kind reply!
