package support for ubuntu 8.10 is not available. where can I get it?

Can you describe the steps you have taken so far? I assume you are trying to install a newer version of hplip as thre is an older version already included. Did you check openprinting.org for drivers?

Intrepid is dead and gone. It is no longer supported. You may find 3rd party ppas supporting Intrepid but the Canonical repos have had their Intrepid folders removed.
