scanner not detected - install a new package

Hello
I use unbutu 10.10 and i use hplip-3.10.6.run to use my hp deskjet 2050 all in one printer scanner. i want to upgrade to hplip-3.10.9.run. after downloading i do not know how to install the package. xsane is installed on my computer but does not detect the scanner. Please help. Thanks Pascal

You need to mark the file as executable then run it in a terminal as user (without sudo).

If the file is in the Downloads folder you will run:

cd ~/Downloads
chmod +x ./hplip-3.10.9.run
./hplip-3.10.9.run

And it will install

I suggest you remove the install printer in the printers dialogue so you can install it fresh.

Can you give the output of the command, as well as the location of the file you downloaded?
