HP printer prints one line black then green

Asked by Bernard Woods

Greetings from sunny Brittany.

My HP 1200 series printer will print black for the first one or two lines of a letter and then carries on in green. This is the same when the printer is connected to another computer also running Ubuntu. A new cartridge was fitted recently with no improvement. The black print is normal from both Windows 95 and Windows Vista running on the same computers.

I have recently re-installed the printer driver with no change.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Bernard.

Install te latest HPLIP from the HPLIP site. The bin file will need setting as executable, then executing in a terminal as user (not sudo)

Thanks for your prompt help. Printer is working correctly.

It took several attempts to get it done. The downloaded file was in Google
Chrome and I eventually had to link it to the Desktop, before using your
instructions!

I have used Ubuntu 10.4 since release. The printer worked correctly until about
3 weeks ago. I have never before needed to download the driver on its own. Is
it possible that a routine update of Ubuntu upset the printer driver?

Thanks again.

Bernard.
