scanner not working

Asked by Larry Jordan

Hi. Had my multi-function printer(s) all set up to scan, but when I tried recently I couldn't scan any more. Output of 'scanimage -L' is:

WARNING: Unhandled message: interface=org.freedesktop.DBus.Introspectable, path=/, member=Introspect
device `hpaio:/usb/Officejet_6500_E709n?serial=MY92Q5113J056Q' is a Hewlett-Packard Officejet_6500_E709n all-in-one

I applied updates from the update manager just a few days before I tried to scan, possibly updating something I shouldn't have. I've checked, and have the latest version of hplip. Any ideas?

hope that helps

also try changing your printer package in application>acessories>print jobs to hp printer
under the add remove in that same sub section

Not getting much from that, subliminal... maybe I should have provided more information. Site says to include all this, after I looked. I'm using Ubuntu 9.10, and the output of hp-check -t is:

Done.

So I'm seeing the warnings as:
1) as originally noted, Checking output of 'scanimage -L'...
WARNING: Unhandled message: interface=org.freedesktop.DBus.Introspectable, path=/, member=Introspect
device `hpaio:/usb/Officejet_6500_E709n?serial=MY92Q5113J056Q' is a Hewlett-Packard Officejet_6500_E709n all-in-one

2) HP Device 0x207 at 008:002:
warning: Device URI: (Makeuri FAILED)

Since the first one is directly related to scanning, and part of what's needed to set up sane/xsane in Linux anyway, I'm looking at that first. Not finding anything quickly. Everything else is working in hplip - well, I assume.... I don't fax very much, so can't swear that it works, but have printed just fine and status stuff shows ok. Nothing there for scanning, though.

i notice this two times in your output as well

depending on the value of wich is greater i would lean toward trying my terminal with the full line of sudo command shown there

sudo aptitude install --assume-yes cupsddk cupsddk-drivers

hope that helps

Asked Launchpad about the Brother printer showing up there once before. Seems to be nothing I can do about that. It worked okay with the message in there before, though.
Tried the full line for cups ddk, result was:

sudo aptitude install --assume-yes cupsddk cupsddk-drivers

So, looks like nothing new to install there. Trying again to 'see' the scanner portion with scanimage results in:

scanimage -L
WARNING: Unhandled message: interface=org.freedesktop.DBus.Introspectable, path=/, member=Introspect
device `hpaio:/usb/Officejet_6500_E709n?serial=MY92Q5113J056Q' is a Hewlett-Packard Officejet_6500_E709n all-in-one

      Still the same problem.
