No hibernation mode in Ubuntu 12.04?

Asked by wordsmyth2

Having installed Ubuntu 12.04, I find the hibernation mode is not working. HIBERNATION shows in the SHUTDOWN choices, but is greyed out. Any fix for this? New upgrade, new problems...

This isn't the case on Unity.
The workarounds in #2 are for Ubuntu Unity where the hibernation entry isn't displayed (by design).
For other DE have a look at the linked bug report.

Maybe test in a terminal if hibernation works at all:
sudo pm-hibernate
