Number pad not working after power failure

Asked by Christopher

I have a odd problem. we lost power for a short period yesterday, and my laptop immediately tried to hibernate, even though it's only six months old and has plenty of battery power.

When I rebooted after power was restored, my number pad wasn't working. I have three partitions: two running 11.10 and Windows 7 on the other. On the 11.10 partition not mounted during the power loss, the number pad works fine, as it does on W7.

My power cord is connected to a surge suppressed power bar, but a surge seems to be the culprit. Any ideas on how to restore it?

Why did you not tell us the laptop make and model?

It didn't seem to be germane, as the number pad is working on my other Ubuntu 11.10 partition, but it's a Lenovo IdeaPad Z565.

Try the boot option:

pcie_aspm=off

May help

Whatever happened, this, which I found on a search fixed the problem:

In 11.10 this setting can be found in Dash home -> More Apps -> System (filter) -> System Settings -> Universal Access -> Pointing and Clicking -> Mouse Keys -> OFF

I also seems to be connected with LibreOffice. Some days back I asked a question regarding its spontaneous launching when opening some, but not all folders (179245).

As I found the solution to the number pad problem on a LibreOffice thread and LibreOffice has stopped launching itself, it's highly probable.
