how to hibernate ubuntu?

When i press the hibernate button the monitor turn off within 2 second but the cpu lights doesnt off i kept the computer as it is thinking it will take time to hibernate. When i came and my pc after 30 min the cpu power light remains on only the monitor light turned to green to orange. how can i prevent this error.?? Thx in advance ....

every system is different in what it doesn. when i put my laptop in hibernation, various light stay on. see it as an indication that it is in hibernation and not completely shut off.

But when i am using windows 7 hole pc turned off. But not in ubuntu

is it just the light staying on? or is the cpu still running? you can probably tell by listening to see if the fan is still on.

anyways, a couple of lights on my machine blinks slowly when in hibernation mode. this occurs both in windoze and ubuntu.
