Can't switch off harddisk

Asked by Torsten Bronger on 2009-04-25

Since I upgraded to Jaunty, I can't switch off my harddisk anymore. I used for this

    sudo /sbin/hdparm -q -y /dev/sdb1

however, some daemon seems to switch it on again immediately. What can I do?

I should add that this is my backup harddisk, and that it is not mounted during this operation.

It now works with

hdparm -q -S 1 /dev/sdb1
sleep 7
hdparm -q -S 0 /dev/sdb1

... which solved my problem.
