how to use hdparm

Asked by Brian

I have recently replaced some hardware components in my pc and I wonted to know if the whole operation was worth the effort. I been told that hdparm is a very useful tool for establishing a benchmark for this( of course I would need to first establish a benchmark, cpu etc). Anyway I installed it only to find that it isn't all that easy to use in fact, I believe that you can do some damage if used incorrectly.
Can anyone help me learn how to use this program?
Brian

hdparm only shows the throughput of the drive in this sense, You can also use it to setup parameters on drives.

You can use:

sudo hdparm -t /dev/hda

to get test of drive performance. hdparm does not test CPU or RAM performance at all. You can use this to get scores for your hardware:

Can you help with this problem?
