Swâmi, in the case of your Toshiba laptop, can you confirm whether running 'hdparm -B 127' actually sets the level to 127? I'm wondering whether the drives where people are still seeing problems have an issue similar to what Ville describes in comment #42, where the APM setting is actually being rounded down by the drive.

In the short term we'll set it back to 128 across the board; but in the longer term, if this actually comes down to drives rounding down, and we can detect that, it would be nice to switch back to 127 again and only use 128 for those drives that can't handle 127.
