hddtemp is not packaged for jammy

Asked by Daniel Reuter

I was trying to port ROS (https://ros.org) noetic to Ubuntu jammy.
One package of ROS does depend on hddtemp but it seems to be unavailable in Ubuntu jammy.
Is there a reason why this package was omitted? Is there a good way to find out why a package is not released for a certain Ubuntu release?

Thanks in advance and cheers :)

(From Debian) ROM; dead upstream, better alternatives; Debian bug https://bugs.debian.org/1002484

Why do you want to port ROS noetic to Ubuntu jammy? That is not supported, see https://www.ros.org/reps/rep-0003.html#noetic-ninjemys-may-2020-may-2025 but the recommendation is switching to ROS 2 https://docs.ros.org/en/rolling/Releases/Release-Humble-Hawksbill.html#supported-platforms
