Hatari's new repository

Asked by Cyprian Konador

Hi All,

Hatari has a new Mercurial repository: http://hg.tuxfamily.org/mercurialroot/hatari/hatari
How to add that repository here?
There is published new version 1.6 and I'd like to install it directly from Ubuntu's installer

thanks

You can't install it directly from Ubuntu's installer, except if you are happy with using hatari version 1.5

The official Ubuntu repositories contain hatari version 1.5, not version 1.6.

The URL you gave us, is NOT an Ubuntu repository. It is not an Ubuntu PPA either. It simply contains the source code for hatari 1.6.1.

The compile and install instructions are here:

http://hg.tuxfamily.org/mercurialroot/hatari/hatari/file/b57dd4f9eabb/readme.txt

You can use the following Terminal command to determine who the maintainer is for the hatari Ubuntu package:

apt-cache show hatari | grep Maintainer

Here is the output of the Terminal command:

$ apt-cache show hatari | grep Maintainer
Maintainer: Ubuntu Developers <email address hidden>
Original-Maintainer: Teemu Hukkanen <email address hidden>

Hi Mark,
I was informed that there is ready debian package with up-to-date Hatari 1.6.1-3 : http://packages.debian.org/wheezy/hatari
Therefore I can install it manually, but question is how to put it into Ubuntu Software Centre.

many thanks
Cyprian

Simple. You should not install it manually. Debian Wheezy is NOT Ubuntu. You should NOT use Debian packages in Ubuntu and vice versa. It will likely break package dependencies and is NOT recommended.

Please ask the maintainer of hatari when the newer version will be moved into the Ubuntu repositories.

regarding Debian packages in Ubuntu, I see here, on launchpad.net that Hatari packages have .deb extension (came from Debian?). How to understand that? I'm Ubuntu's newbie and my question can bea bit naive :) thanks
