Asked by drummerduncan

I have been trying to find forums and such to help with the configuration of my broadcom wireless card for my compaq presario r3140us. ive downloaded the ndiswrapper and tried to configure that with windows drivers that i have found. I've installed them but still nothing. the package i have is called bcmwl5a.tar.gz. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Where did you download the package bcmwl5a.tar.gz? Is this the driver or something else?

Let's back up a bit. Open a terminal and type

lspci (that's LSPCI in lower case)

Look for a line about network controller and see what model broadcom you have. There are some good instructions for the 43xx series cards here:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx

If you have something different, post back the output from the lspci command and we can go from there.

i typed that in, it said that i have the 4306. i've read on forums that it says that because ubuntu doesnt know what this wireless card is so it took a guess. but i've looked on this forum, i feel like the guy knows what hes talking about

http://www.pcxperience.com/WebGUI/index.pl/laptop/r3140us

this is the exact model that i have. on another forum i found some .exe files, but i dont know how to obtain a .sys or .inf from it.
