Support for Xerox Documate Scanner?

Asked by Fritz Schulz

Hi.

I have a Xerox documate 510 scanner. Any chance it's supported through Ubuntu and I'm just missing it? My scanner is now the only chunk of technology on my home network that is not directly supported through Ubuntu. Hooray! I suspect it's not supported, because the system autodetect and update functions have become incredibly good.

My "device manager sees the device with "usb_device.product string Documate 510" and many other otherwise incomprehensible device data elements listed. But when I run the Xsane Image Scanning Program, it looks for scanners and returns "no devices available".

If not, I'd welcome suggested alternatives for support, or suggestions on how to lobby Xerox to provide support. For example, what specifically should I ask for? Examples: "Put drivers in Ubuntu database", or "Identify people to work with the Ubuntu Team", or just "give money to Ubuntu to do this".

Thanks to the Ubuntu community for all the great work.

Hello,

Ubuntu should recognize your scanner, if you use Dapper Drake probably you have a package problem, cause scanners are supported in almost every Linux distro and mainly you don't have to install them they are recognized immediately when you plug them in.

If xsane does not works try kooka (KDE) image scanning program which you can install through synaptic.

Can you help with this problem?
