help with soundcard

HEY I HAVE a Creative SB Live 24bit PCI sound card and I have no sound what so ever please help if possible thanks a lot

Hello Duke. I have the very same problem and I have over 30 older Dell computers. I think they are all variantions of the Optiplex model. Some are GXi and some are GXPro. None recognize Ubuntu or Edubuntu sound cards. They also do not recognize Mepis.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I had the same problem I worked on mine for 2 months, I tired every that said in ubuntu to fix my no sound problem. This what I did, I un-install everything in my pc, I formatted my hard drive eliminating ubuntu, I installed windows xp which i hated to do, which inside of windows xp i found the drivers for my sound card I installed those and windows xp gave me a upgrade on my sound card and on my video card I installed the drivers on xp I got an upgrade from xp on the Internet, i got an upgrade on my chip set through xp and then, I put the live cd of 10.04 ran it bingo no problem so it fixed all my problems. Everyone there pc to me that have 8.10-10.10 i did the same thing regardless of what sound or video card they had, so I did the same thing their pc and their problem was solved, with no headaches.
