I have a Dell NX1, which is the small form factor verson of the GX1. The motherboards are essentially the same, as far as the sound goes. I don't know what changes you have made to your system, but you may have to undo those before you will have success. Then, edit /etc/modules and add the following line at the bottom of the file, save and reboot.
snd-cs4236

I forgot to mention two things.
1. If you don't know how to edit the file, then I suggest:
 sudo gedit /etc/modules

2. I achieved the results on the Dapper beta on this date, with all patches having been applied(again, as of March 26, 2006)

The line is added & I'm able to hear my CD's now
I did update the Bios to A10 but the file edit fixed the problem.
Thanks

My suggestion would be that you close this ticket and mark it as solved or resolved or whatever seems closest. I assume that you have rights to close it, since you created it.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask John Ammerman for more information if necessary.
