Jerky Graphics and Multiple Button Mouse problem

Asked by walleye0406

I am really new to Linux, and i have a few problems. first i have a five button optical mouse is there any way to configure linux for it? next when i surf the web i commonly use the middle roller on my mouse to scroll up and down on a page, but it always seems really jerky. it happens any where where you can scroll, and it also occurs in most of the screen savers. it is almost like the grafics card is not fast enough, but i know it isn't. it is a Diamond with RV515 [Radeon X1300] and 256 Mb of gddr2 ram i think. is there some ting i can do?

Ok, first for the mouse problem, the usual solution is to edit your xorg.conf file. This is a very simple process. First open up the terminal, Applications>Accesories>Terminal then use the following command(please copy and paste as capitalization does matter in Linux):

sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

and add the following line in the mouse section:

Option "ButtonMapping" "1 2 3 6 7"

Then you can save the file, and restart X by using the keyboard combo CTRL+ALT+Backspace or you can restart your computer. That should take care of the mouse.

What version of Ubuntu are you using?

To whom it may concern:
The problem is not a graphics or mouse problem I am
currently using Ubuntu 6.06 the problem is my sound
card and totem player prob the sound card is a ISA
card which from what I have see seems to be a common
configuration problem with most Linux base OS
platforms My sound card is a sound blaster 64aw if you
can give me any information as to how to configure
this prob I would greatly appreciate it, also is there
another site in which I can reload the totem player I
suspect that there is a fault in the program included
in the Ubuntu that I received all information will be
appreciated.
             Thanks
