Epson Stylus RX420 Printer setup

Asked by Mary Matthews

Epson Stylus RX 420, I haven't successfully downloaded a driver for it. I'm a newcomer to Ubutu. I have tried a number of internet sites but the downloading and connecting up process never seems to complete.

Hi, if you go to System --> Administration --> Printing. Then follow the prompts until it asks for a driver, then choose Epson, is the "Stylus Photo RX420" listed? It is on my Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy) installation. I believe the driver is provided by the "cupsys-driver-gutenprint" package. So if the driver isn't listed then you may need to install that package if it isn't already installed. You can see if it's installed by going to System --> Administration --> Synaptic Package Manager then searching. If not installed then add it then try to add the printer again.

If this resolves the issue please tag this as "answered" otherwise let us know how you get on and we'll continue to help.

You should not have to download any drivers as the Gutenprint drivers are already part of Ubuntu. System-->Administration-->Printing
Select Add Printer, choose your printer it should be called Stylus-Photo-RX420 and it will use the Gutenprint drivers.

Here is some more information about your printer on Linux
