Kubuntu plays sound, Ubunto doesn't (SoundMAX)...

Asked by Kakoon

I have an Asus motherboard, type P4U-800X with an onboard soundcard of 'SoundMAX Digital Audio'.

First, I installed Kubuntu, and it could play message sounds and stuff without problems. Though mp3's could not be played (might have something to do with codecs though).

After that, I installed Ubuntu over Kubuntu, and now my soundcard can't be found. While, in Kubuntu, I could change my master volume, in Ubuntu it says there's no sound card there.

What's the difference between Ubuntu and Kubuntu regarding sound drivers, and how can I make my soundcard work in Ubuntu? (I'm not very advanced in Linux...)

Thanks in advance!

First, please list your lsmod command result. Also, check alsamixer - maybe sound is muted ;).

Can you help with this problem?
