Screen Resolution

Asked by Dick Metzger

I cannot change the screen resolution in Ubuntu. The link shows an up/down arrow but will not allow any other setting than the 640X480 which is way to large making it impossible to see all the links on the screen. Can anyone help me resolve this issue? Thanks: Richard

Is there a link similar to Windows Control panel which allows you to click on Display, then change screen resolution ?
Also can't find a way to get to system information which might help?

Hello Dean: I thought I would try this correction you mentioned, but don't know where to find the box to enter this link - Can you advise where it is found? [ I am running Ubuntu as the only O.S. on my machine!] Please advise! Thanks! Richard
THIS IS THE LINK YOU SUGGESTED:
sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.custom
sudo sh -c 'md5sum /etc/X11/xorg.conf > /var/lib/x11/xorg.conf.md5sum'
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

Hi,

If you go to applications->accessories->terminal it will open up a program where you can copy those lines in one by one. (Press enter after each line)

Try using XFree86 modelines with your X.org server. It will set up all modes that you can use, corresponding to your display. It will also make the refresh rates higher, in most cases ;)

Can you help with this problem?
