On Board Sound Problem

Asked by Rich

Hi

First I am very new to Linux so excuse my naivety.
I am having a problem with my on board sound.
My PC is a HP Vectra VL400 with a built in CS4624 Crystal sound card.
This works fine except it will not record , I have tried every thing on the forums but still no good.
There are no jumpers or BIOS setting to turn it off.
I have fitted an old CM8738 C-Media PCI card and this work fine and records too.
The trouble is every time I start the PC the CM8738 can be either either dev/dsp or dev/dsp1, this is frustrating as the ham radio programs I use require the sound card to be in the config and I have keep changing it.
My question is this can I disable the on board sound from Linux and if so how ?
OR can I force each card to keep its dev/dsp designation.
Thanks in advance Rich

Thanks for the suggestion but as you will see from my original post there is no way to turn off the sound in BIOS or via jumpers on the motherboard.
Any other Ideas please ?
