TV Tuner Card (Philips SAA 7130) is not working

Asked by Sajith on 2010-08-31

Hai,

I have a TV Tuner Card: 'Philips Semiconductors SAA7130 Video Broadcast Decoder'

But I can't view TV with TV Time. Cannot configure it with GUI.

The Screenshot displayed in this link contains an option named CHANNEL MANAGEMENT in TV Time menu.

http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/debian-ubuntu-linux-configure-pinnacle-pctv-tuner.html

But in my TV Time it displays only the other 5 options. How can I view TV Channels from Linux.

Help me in solving this problem

Thanks.

The product name (as per the cover is) SSD-TV-675 by TECH-COM.

Can you give the output of:

lsmod

The product name is moot. We know the chip and thats all we need.

it seems to be supported by running

sudo modeprobe saa7134

You can now install tvtime and use the device. You don't need the windows app as it is for windows. You cam regain the space by running:

uninstaller

and uninstalling the windows app. It is of zero use to you.

I am not using any windows application. I want to run TV Time in my Ubuntu 10.04.
Manufacturers of the card said that the product will not work under Linux/Ubuntu. But many persons using the same card under linux to view TV channels.
In the result of dmesg, it says, the card lacks eeprom and so linux can't identify the card.

Thanks.

can you reboot and give the output of:

dmesg > ~/tv.txt; gedit ~/tv.txt; rm ~/tv.txt

What is output?

Thanks

The chip is fully supported by the open source driver which is why it's billed as compatible. This shouldn't take too much work.

you will need to run:

gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/saa7130.conf

add this line:

options saa7134 card=10

save the file and reboot, your tvcard is cheap because there is no EEPROM to tell the OS what it is so YOU have to tell your OS what it is. Better tv cards have these things and make them work pretty much automatically but hey, you get what you pay for.

You may also need a tuner option on the module too, but we'll see.

After rebooting, I have used the command 'tvtime scanner -n PAL. Now the missing command (Channel Management) appeared in the TV Time Menu. But It displays the message "No Signal"

I have read from some forums that, the values 'options card=3 tuner=69' made it worked. But in my case it also disappointed me...

Please give me your suggestion after reboot.

Glad you got the gold. The options need adding in the .conf file to make them stick. You could try different tuner / card settings to see if you can make them better.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Sajith for more information if necessary.
