Hi,

the yahoo messaging protocol cannot be used with gwibber. Gwibber is designed for streams of public status updates whereas the yahoo messenger is made for private communication between two parties.

You may want to try out one of the open source instant messenger programs such as Empathy, Pidgin or Kopete. They are all available in the ubuntu repositories.
