How does Gufw firewall block incoming attacks?

Asked by meow on 2009-12-23

Hi

How does gufw firewall block incoming attacks for unsolicited connections-will the default deny setting do this?

Also does gufw support block import lists of known bad ip addresses and malware domains such as the program peer guardian for windows?

You want to edit your etc/hosts file to block by ip. Here is a great list for that, http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.zip (all you need is the HOST file, ignore all the rest, that is for windows) Just open it with a text editor and copy and paste the list from HOST to etc/hosts. As for gufw I'm pretty certain it makes use of iptables to block connections but you better ask the more security savvy about that.

BTW, ignore the date in the URL. That list is up to date as of Updated: Dec-22-2009. I also wanted to add the command just in case you didn't know it. sudo gedit etc/hosts
