Possible to add GUFW 21.04 to Ubuntu 20.04 to fix Github #9?

Asked by Hamish McIntyre-Bhatty

A little time ago, I encountered the issue at https://github.com/costales/gufw/issues/9 that was subsequently fixed.

As this firewall ships with Ubuntu, and this is a fairly serious bug, would it potentially be possible to get this updated in the repos? An update to 21.04 would fix the issue I believe. I think this fix is definitely worth having in the repositories as misreporting the state of the firewall and the rules available (as it did for me) is quite serious.

In order to accomplish this, file a bug report. In the importance category file it as 'Wishlist' include the hyperlink.
To start a Bug report for this open a terminal. Type: ubuntu-bug gufw This will start Apport to collect information
on you desktop to add to the Bug report. Otherwise the Bug report will be considered Incomplete.
In the title "Ubuntu 20.04 GUFW". Everything else document in the comments afterward.
This may be the very item that gets the developers attention. Vastly used even by my self.
Hyperlink to this question on comments please.
Thank You

There are two possible solutions to this problem:

1. backport the version for 20.10 to 20.04
2. error correction in the version for 20.04

Both solutions are initiated by creating a bug report.

I guess that solution #2 could be quicker, especially because there is already a known solution.
Please add the link to https://github.com/costales/gufw/files/5430823/fix_9.zip to the bug report.

Thanks. I imagine #2 might be faster. Problem is I run Mint (which gets the Gufw package from Ubuntu 20.04 LTS). I can run Ubuntu-bug in a 20.04 LTS VM though, if that is good enough.

Thanks.

Fast workaround for you: apply the patch on your system.
