user permissions

Asked by Laurence Kramer

I have to run gtkterm under sudo to use it at all. I get "Cannot open /dev/ttyUSB0: Permission denied" when using it without sudo. Also when I'm in the program and try to change a setting in the configuration like adjusting the baud rate, it accepts the change but when I go back into changing it, it's like I never did. it will only work if the device is connected and I have CTS & DSR indications.

I'm using Linux Mint 17.1 64bit. connected to a Prolific PL2303 USB to Serial adapter connected to an HP 1910-8G Switch (JG348A)

Linux Mint isn't supported here or in any of the Ubuntu support channels. Mint has its own forums and community which is completely separate from Ubuntu.

You want the Mint forum here:
https://forums.linuxmint.com

Can you help with this problem?
