pictures will not download to the PC.

Asked by jackbroo

When I attach the camera to the PC pictures are on the screen but as soon as I disconnect the camera they disappear and do not download to my picture file or anywhere else. My computer shows my camera ikon but once again as soon as I turn off the camera it disappears.

That's because you need to copy them yourself. If it automatically copied them straight into the Pictures folder it would become a giant mess.

I am a new user to Linux. I aways used picasa3 to download my pictures so am spoiled. Picasa3 does not seem to be compatible with Linux.
In the help menu it states to just hook up the camera and Linux will do the rest.
But as I said it opens a screen and lets me see the pictures but does not seem to have a download function that will allow me to disconnect the camera.

Bring up your window with the files from the camera. Then go to Places > Pictures and position that window so you can see both at the same time. Drag the photos from the camera window to the Pictures window.

You can go to Edit > Select All so you don't have to drag each photo individually.

This operation works on both Windows and Mac too.
