Strange, I can see .xcf thumbnails with both Nautilus and gThumb (mind you I'm using 7.04).
I don't understand the last remark: are you or are you not able to open .xcf files with GIMP?

I just discover your message. Well, the the "problem" of thumbnails is resolved. Not on the quickest way. But never mind. I open each file I have imported from windows, one by one.
And so I get thumbnails, that remain as thumbnails for the next session . Opening a 20 or 30 files in the same time gives me thumbnails, that disappear when I close the session.
Concerning qthumb. I am not able to open .xcf files. I got a window with the message (in French) "Execution of the process file:///home /my_name/my pictures/gimp/gimper pg.name of the picture.xcf failed . No file or directory of that kind.
If you had a solution, I should be very glad.

That message is telling you that that in the directory ~/my pictures/gimp/ there is no file with the name
gimper pg.name of the picture.xcf

This file name is indeed strange, looks like you tried to save a file but somehow mishandled the name.

Lets check first the directory. I suppose you are kind of new to linux so I'm giving you detailed instructions:

1) Open a terminal (Menu->Accessories->Terminal)
2) Type the following command: ls my pictures/gimp <enter>
3) Tell me what the output of that command is

PS. <enter> means pressing the Enter key

PS. I have just completed the update to 7.04. The only change, for qthumb, it makes, is that the error message does not appear anymore.
     But, it is still impossible to open from gthump a .xcf file

Sorry !!!! I was wrong. When I do "correctly" the command in the terminal
 ls mes_images/gimp
I get : " gimper" and "gp.07.04.23.xcf
and when I do
ls mes_images/gimp/gimper
I get a list (in pink color) of all the files that are inside "gimper"

There appears to be a bug in gThumb, in that it is possible to view .xcf file as thumbnails but not view them in full.
If you ckick with the mouse right button on an image in gThumb, it should give you a menu. Choose the option "Open with..." (Ouvrez avec...). You should be given a list of applications you can choose to open the image.
Its the second report I get about this issue, so I will file a bug report myself.
