Unable to recognise camera for loading photos

I am trying to load photos but my camera is not being recognised. It's a Samsung Digimax A50. I'm staying in Canada for holidays and so I'm using a relative's computer, I'm not familiar with the set up and therefore don't want to go messing about with settings etc. Can anyone advise me on the next step to getting my photos uploaded?
I'd appreciate it!

Does going to places->computer show a disk icon that contains the photos by any chance?

If not then you're probably out of luck.

If the camera uses a memory card, try using a memory card reader. In my experience these work without issue in Ubuntu.
