configuration of touchpad on ibex not working

With the introduction of HAL to manage the peripherals on Ibex, the configuration of the touchpad is now different fro mwhat it used to be. The old documentation that comes with gsynaptics says to "insert a line with SHMconfig = true in /etc/X11/xorg.conf, but how must such a line be now introduced ?
