Ubuntu

No FLAC encoding available

Asked by Jan Heitkötter on 2012-02-11

FLAC encoding option does not show up in several gstreamer-based applications like Rhythmbox and Sound Juicer. gconf-editor shows all profiles, but these are not the profiles offered in Rhythmbox and Sound Juicer. This bug (?) is present on Ubuntu Oneiric and Debian Testing. Therefore, I don't have a chance to encode to FLAC in the moment.

Any hints?

What are you encoding with FLAC?

I'm trying to rip CDs to FLAC.

Rhythmbox and Sound Juicer offer me the following profiles:
- MPEG Layer 3 Audio
- Ogg Vorbis
- one blank, unnamed option?!
- MPEG 4 Audio

I can't edit these profiles from neither Rhythmbox nor Sound Juicer. The settings button (labeled "Einstellungen" in German) is disabled.

Thanks for your links. Trying out the advice given in the first one (and expecting the worst ;-), Sound Juicer /now/ offers me the correct gconf profiles. Awkward.

Rhythmbox seems still broken. I'll investigate further and file a bug against Rhythmbox, if neccessary.

Cheers

Jan
