Open a terminal. Run "gksudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst".
Look for this (for me, it's the third option from the top)

## hiddenmenu
# Hides the menu by default (press ESC to see the menu)
#hiddenmenu

Remove the hash from in front of the "hiddenmenu" on the third line. Save.

I reinstalled grub-pc, grub-common, and memtest64+. This solved my problem, although still not sure how the problem was created.

I want to see the Grub menu, which i could with karmic, but i do not see it after a fresh install of lucid. How do I configure my system to show the grub menu on boot (recovery mode and memtest)?
