Uninstall Ubuntu GRUB problem

Asked by Gary Wright

My computer is running Ubuntu 9.10 and Windows Vista as dual boot. Ubuntu is in its own partition. I can uninstall Ubuntu by reformatting the partition but when I restart the GNU GRUB loader starts up and can't find the partititions which have been reformatted and so will not load anything. I think that I need to remove the GRUB loader but I don't know how to. Am I right in thinking that if I remove the GRUB loader that Windows will then boot OK? Can someone please tell me how to remove the GRUB loader or point me to somewhere where I could find out???Please.

Grub overwrote your bootloader so you will need to use a Vista CD to reinstate the bootloader, or install supergrub which will give you a bootloader.

You need to: fixmbr

It can be done in various ways depending on the OS. Google for it. If you have the Vista install disk that will help - see e.g. http://helpdeskgeek.com/how-to/fix-mbr-xp-vista/

You are fixing the mbr (master boot record)

Supergrub sounds like the answer - many thanks.
