When loading grub, command line appears.

Asked by Maarten van den Berg

I am running Ubuntu and Windows 2000 on my computer.
when I try to boot ubuntu, i get the message:

GNU GRUB Version 1.97~beta4

[minimal BASH-like line editing is supported, For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists the possible completions of a device/filename.]

and under that: sh:grub>_ (I think sort of command line, i can type on it.)
It should load a menu or something, because that did it first.
The problem appeared after an update from Ubuntu.
I never change something on it, because I don't understand it.

can i manually load the kernel? or change grub so that it will auto load a menu, like it first did?

Sorry for my bad English, please post any questions below.

I give up. I reinstalled Ubuntu and now everything works perfect! Sam, thanks for your help, i came on a page that said that
sh:grub> means that grub is damaged...
