Grub2 is stuck after Karmic Alpha 5 update

Asked by Alex Lourie

I've performed the latest Alpha 5 update yesterday (Sep 16). Since then I experience 2 major problems:

1. Xorg segfaults in nvidia driver 185. I cannot currently file a bug report as :
2. Grub2 boot is stuck. I see the message "Grub is booting." and computer does nothing. I set it to hibernate instead of reboot, but it
doesn't start at all now.

Any idea how to resolve this?

Thanks.

may help

Considering how incredibly flaky hibernate / suspend is, and you are using an Alpha release. I wouldnt use hibernate in the system until the official release. Hibernate and suspend are a pain to get nice and will no doubt mak stuff not work, in this case booting.

@actionparsnip

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I know hibernate is not stable, I hit it by mistake. The suggestion above cannot help as I can't even boot the machine :-(.

You may have to boot to live cd to edit the files the guide states. Make a backup of any files you edit before playing so you can easily roll back.

I hoped I could've escaped that ....

All right, all right.

Thanks :-)
