grub xputs symbol not found

Asked by Thomas Benson

I am trying to install Ubuntu 12.04.4 server Precise (using the Mini.iso). Everything seemed to be going smoothly until it finished the installation and rebooted. I'm getting an error: the symbol 'grub xputs' not found, followed by a grub rescue prompt.

Query error message, results suggest to reinstall Grub, seems it can mix boot sequences.

My HDD is a primary slave Transcend CF, so it's sdb. I believe the installer by default put the grub2 on sda. On my most recent attempt when prompted to install grub2, I selected no, which gave me the option to select a different device. i typed in /dev/sdb, and away it went. On to the next problem. Thanks everyone.
