Operating System

Asked by Gordon Local

I have been trying to do a dual operating system, the information i got recently was once windows was installed i would have to re-boot Ubuntu from the CD and put Grub back on the MBR and then add Windows to Grub so that both Operating Systems can the boot. I now have Windows installed and Ubuntu. Unfortunatly i am in the dark as to go about it as i do not know what Grub or MBR, so what i am asking is how would i go about it (i have the Ubuntu CD). Any answers could you please keep them as simple as posible. Thank you.

If you install Ubuntu, it should install GRUB to MBR automatically (and grub should detect Windows and add it as an opion automatically). You may need to hold shift when your computer is starting to see the grub menu.

The easy way is automatic. Named: boot-repair.

Visit this page : https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair

and focus on "2nd Option".

Good Luck.

I would like to thank all for there comments, i have tried all options, the one from Nick came up with an error. I also tried Dave's method without success. However, what i have done is when i booted up the computer with the Ubuntu disc in, it managed to come up with the option of installing Ubuntu along side windows, i clicked on install after it finished i rebooted and it came up on the screen with the option of Windows or Ubuntu systems. Windows works perfect but Ubuntu comes up with, Try (hd0,0) : EXT2: does anyone have any idea's as i am almost there now and i want to use Ubunto Open Office for my work, that is why i have not loaded Microsoft Office 2010 Home and Business. Cheers.
