12.04 - Edit Boot Menu

Asked by Colin Stone

Just installed 12.04 and helpfully (not) Ubuntu boot menu defaults to Ubuntu starting and not Windows. How do I simply change the boot menu order.
Also cannot even find where Ubuntu is installed - seems to be very secretive. So far not very impressed!!!!!!

You need 2 commands, not an app.

sudo mv /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober /etc/grub.d/08_os-prober
sudo update-grub

Done

Thanks - for someone who has installed Ubuntu out of curiosity, it is unecessarily complicated. The software authors should include the option to choose the boot order when installing, not deliver a fait accompli.
I guess uninstall is the easiest way out.

The boot changing in Windows isn't much nicer.

Can you help with this problem?
