lost dual boot win xp ubuntu 12

Asked by anders e

First I installed win xp then I used the Ubuntu 12.04 cd to install Ubuntu, I had access to both systems through grub. After some installs on windows (maybe firewall and virus program?) I lost contact with grub, now only Win XP boots. How do I regain the double boot? I tried GParted, which couldn't help.

The MBR probably got overwritten. It can be recovered however. See here:

If you run:

sudo update-grub; lsb_release -a; sudo fdisk -l

What is output?

Thanks
