error: the symbol 'grub_xputs' not found

Asked by Vera Schmidt

I updated 10.04 LTS to 12.04.1 LTS last night.

Now my computer doesn't start any more. I do have a 2nd harddrive with W2K which I before started with grub.

Now W2K start's after changing the order of the harddrives in the bios, ubuntu doesn't start at all, so in the moment am posting with a live DVD with 10.04 LTS.

I found several grub xputs problems in launchpad from 2010 and 2011.

I am not sure if "sudo dpkg-reconfigure grub-pc" will help me or makes it worse.

Would be nice to get help.

If you hold shift at boot, can you select an older kernel to boot from?

Super, danke. Link auf Wiki war sehr hilfreich, die Reparatur mit Live-DVD hat ohne Probleme funktioniert. Jetzt muss ich mich nur noch auf der neuen Oberfläche zurecht finden ;-)
Thanks alot. Wiki-Link was very helpful, re-installation of grub with Live-DVD worked without problems. No just the problem of the new Desktop ist left ;-)
