Unable to boot ubuntu 11.10 OS and unable to install windows xp

Asked by Ratna Prabhakar Chilakamarthi

Hi,

i am using Ubuntu 11.10.. today i tried to install windows xp in one of the hard disk partitions which is formatted as NTFS. During installation i got an error that this is not a windows xp recognizable partition and the installation of windows xp stopped.

I stopped installation and tried to boot my system which already has ubuntu 11.10. But the system is not booting up.
I m getting the errors as Unable to start the operation system( Operating system failure)..

Please help me to resolve this.

Is there any way to recover my Ubuntu 11.10(currently installed OS) without formatting and later on install windows xp.

Thanks in advance.

You can boot to the liveCD and reinstate Grub. Your junk Windows installer blindly overwrote Grub so you need to put it back on
